Circus Outreach

Wonderbolt Outreach

Wonderbolt has a long history of working with Youth and Indigenous communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Working in partnership with schools, community groups and the Indigenous communities in NL we have created a positive, focused, gender inclusive Physical Arts Program that provides multiple doorways for participation and has given youth a whole new perspective on physical activity.

We have toured the coast of Labrador on numerous occasions and helped create a series of workshops and a performance festival in Sheshatshiu and Natuashish for over a decade. In 2011 we brought our Physical Arts Program to the Miawpukek First Nation in Conne River. In 2016 we began an ongoing project to establish Circus Clubs, workshops and performances in Nunatsiavut communities on the northern coast of Labrador.

These projects engage students in a unique personally expressive activity with an ultimate goal to develop a circus skills club in the schools.

CIRKASKINA
THE CANADIAN SOCIAL CIRCUS MOVEMENT

Through its actions, Cirkaskina creates spaces for sharing knowledge and meaningful cultural interactions.

Cirkaskina was founded following the first national social circus gathering in Montreal, in January 2020, which brought together 150 youth from 17 Canadian communities. Cirkaskina, meaning “everyone together” in the Atikamekw Indigenous language, now includes 24 partner organizations from across Canada.

Cirkaskina’s goals are rooted in reality.

  • Facilitate networking activities for youth and social circus practitioners, researchers and managers.

  • Promote and strengthen the recognition of circus arts as a tool for social transformation.

  • Foster the engagement and empowerment of marginalized youth in their communities.

Wonderbolt Productions
2025 Labrador Outreach Trip

In April 2025, Wonderbolt Productions headed to Labrador for engaging community outreach programs with the goal to develop circus skills in the schools.

This year we visited William Gillett Academy in Charlottetown and Bayside Academy in Port Hope Simpson!

The wonderful and talented Jamie Ruby and Melissa Williams conducted learning sessions for all groups of students. At the end of the sessions a fabulous show was put off for the school and community as these students showed off their newly acquired circus skills including those in: Aerial Hammock, Plate Spinning, Devil Sticks, Diabolo, Juggling, Stilt Walking, and the Unicycle!

A big thanks to the Administrators of both schools (Pam Campbell & Christopher Rowsell), our host teachers who got involved (Mr. Phillips, Mr. Weir, and Ms. Simms), our friend of the circus, Amy Norman, those that came out to watch the show and cheer on the kids, and of course….all the students for opening their minds and bodies to learning about the joys, benefits, and fun of being part of the circus!

See some exciting pics and videos from our visit below!
