Marian Frances White is a writer who has published in many different genres including biographies, almanacs, short stories, history, film, poetry and the infamous women’s newspaper “Waterlily”. In 2000, she was named Artist of the Year by the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council. White’s films have taken awards in Canada and the United States. In 2000 she produced The Untold Story of the Suffragists of Newfoundland, followed by Fool Proof, a circus odyssey. In 2005 she co-produced a dramatic CSI-style documentary, Stealing Mary: Last of the Red Indians – a film that explores the demise of the Beothuk people of Newfoundland. In 2007 she released Tricksters, a documentary that takes viewers for a unique adventure to northern Innu communities in Labrador. In 2018 White released the live action TV Special, Sights Before Christmas, based on her book by the same title, co-authored with her partner, Beni Malone. 2019 White produced Circus By Komatik, shot in remote Labrador Inuit communities as they learn circus antics. White’s passion is vegan cooking. To celebrate her forty years as a vegan, in 2019 Breakwater Books published her cookbook, Island Vegan. She is currently working on a collection of poetry called Good Grief and a sensual feast of her novel in progress, Ah Paris! Outside of her creative work, Marian is the Wonderbolt Office Administrator, helping plot the course of this adventurous circus company.
